Though the IML technology, which is an abbreviation for In Mould Labelling, is rather new in the packaging and labelling industry, we can say that it&rsquo;s the labelling technique with a day by day increasing production capacity. The procedure is carried out by placing the polypropylene (PP) film, on which the image is printed beforehand and cropped into the shape of the product, in the injection mould. Then, the melted PP is placed into the mould and labelled which is called In Mould Labelling.&nbsp;
In Mould Labelling is a labelling technique in which plastic packaging products are labelled onto the products quickly and efficiently. Colourful, high-resolution, and high-quality packaging with a single label is easily manufactured with the in mould labelling technique.&nbsp;
In Mould Labelling is one of the latest developments in the plastic packaging industry. The previous technique of offset printing for plastic packaging is now being replaced by in mould labelling technology.&nbsp;
In Mould Labelling robot is an automation system used in the plastic packaging industry. IML label is picked up by the transfer unit, and placed onto the adhesion arm. The robot arm goes through the injection unit and the label is placed into the mould. The final product is picked up from the other side. The robot arm goes back into its reference position after going out from the injection mould, the product picking unit places the product on the stacking unit and the product is stacked on the conveyor.

What is the IML - In Mould Labelling Technology?

With the discovery of plastic, plastic packaging replaced paper and cardboard packaging which were prominent in the 1900s. In general, their use began after World War 2. During the war, an excess amount of polyethylene was produced and soon after the war, it became a product widely found in the market.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The development of plastic, which initially replaced wax paper used in bread packaging, gained momentum with the growth in the packaging industry in the 1970s. Plastic packaging, previously used solely for carrying and storage purposes, also became informational labels with the latest technologies.&nbsp;
The first synthetic plastic was made by Alexander Parker in 1838, and was exhibited at the Grand International Exhibition in London, in 1862. In 1840, Charles Goodyear and Thomas Hancock developed a procedure that adds elasticity to natural rubber. In 1870, John Wesley Hyatt from New York was given the patent for celluloid, produced in high heat and pressure with low nitrate levels. This discovery is the first plastic launched into the market and has been the only plastic up until &ldquo;Bakelite&rdquo; was found in 1907 by Leo Hendrik Baekeland. 
How are Plastic Packages Made?
Plastic packages are made by processing various products obtained from oil refineries in petrochemical plants. Since many packages can be obtained with very little material via plastic, it&rsquo;s a widely used raw material in the industry.

Cheese Production and Process
Cheese production has been carried out for years. The techniques used in cheese making can vary depending on the type of cheese, the source of milk used, the geographical region, and even the country. The main components of cheese making include milk, rennet, starter cultures, and cheese cultures. The process of cheese making involves pasteurizing the milk, fermenting it, forming cheese curds, and finally, aging the cheese.
Cheese is prepared by processing the curds formed by coagulating (the process of liquid turning into curds) milk, cream, skimmed or partially skimmed milk, buttermilk, or a combination of these products with suitable enzymes and/or lactic acid, and then by appropriately processing the drained whey.
There ara more than 2500 cheese types and varieties in the world. Cheeses are classified into very hard, hard, semi-hard, semi-soft, and soft categories based on their moisture content. They are also grouped into full-fat, fatty, semi-fat, and fat-free categories based on their fat content.
The cheese production scheme is as follows.
Raw milk -&gt; Cheese milk -&gt; Coagulated cheese-&gt; Curd -&gt; Feta Cheese
&middot; &nbsp;After the raw milk is selected, it is pre-processed, where the cleaning process is applied and it goes to the heat treatment stage. In heat treatment, milk undergoes pasteurization.
&middot; A curd is obtained from the resulting cheese milk with additives.
&middot; This curd is first cut, stirred, and heated. Then, acidity development is ensured. The whey is separated, and this process is called syneresis.
&middot; At the curd formation stage, acidity development is emphasized and special processes such as boiling are applied. Salt can also be added according to the desired flavor. The cheese is transferred to a mold and pressed to shape it during the molding stage.
&middot; The resulting fresh cheese is packaged if desired. However, most varieties are salted, secondary culture is added and cheese aging and maturation is waited. Afterwards, the packaged cheese is ready to meet the consumer.
Packaging Need for Cheese / Importance of Cheese Packaging
The importance and benefits of the plastic packaging used in cheese can be evaluated from various aspects.
Packaging for extended shelf-life / Protection: Plastic packaging ensures the protection of cheese against external factors. Elements such as air, moisture, light, and microorganisms can have a negative impact on the quality of cheese. Plastic packaging helps to protect the cheese from such factors, allowing it to be stored fresh and safely for a longer period of time.
Hygiene: Plastic packaging ensures that the cheese is preserved in hygienic conditions. The packaging prevents the contamination of cheese by microorganisms that may come into contact with it after the production process, ensuring the microbiological safety of the cheese.
Portability: Plastic packaging enables the cheese to be transported easily and conveniently. The packaging allows the cheese to be transported without breaking, crushing, or deforming, thereby preserving its shape, texture, and flavor.
Information: Plastic packaging provides information about the cheese to the consumer through labels on them. The packaging may contain details such as the type of cheese, producer information, storage conditions, and usage recommendations. This information helps consumers make informed choices and properly store the cheese.
Eco Friendly Packaging Solutions: Plastic packaging can be made from eco-friendly materials. By using recyclable plastics, it is possible to reduce packaging waste and protect natural resources.

The technology used to prevent the label from coming off or fading on the packaging selected for cheese is called IML (In-Mold Labeling). Due to the high water or fat content in cheeses, IML is used to ensure that the label remains attached to the packaging and that the text does not fade in any way. This technology allows the label on the packaging to stay intact for a long time.

&ldquo;0&rdquo; Waste Certificate &ldquo;Zero Waste; It is a target defined as a waste management philosophy that includes preventing waste, using resources more efficiently, preventing or minimizing waste generation by reviewing the causes of waste generation, and collecting and recycling waste separately at the source in case of occurrence.&rdquo;
Zero Waste Certificate is obtained by the Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization in order to reduce and prevent waste generation. The waste generated is collected separately from the source, thus minimizing the energy to be spent in the waste separation process. The accumulated wastes are transported to the temporary storage area, recorded and disposed of in the relevant container. From here, it sets out to be sent to waste processing facilities with environmental licenses.
Efficiency increases with zero waste, clean environment-based performance increases, costs are reduced, so waste is prevented, helps to reduce environmental risks, and ensures the development of environmental protection awareness within the organization.
With 31,000,000 tons of waste per year, 42 million trees, 585 million kg less greenhouse gas, 69 million cubic meters less water use, 20 billion kWh lower energy use, 13 billion TL annual added value can be achieved.

Recycling is very important because it takes a long time for plastic waste to mix with nature. Burning it harms the air and throwing it into the sea harms the marine ecosystem. In the sea, plastics turn into microplastics with the effect of sunlight. Microplastics found in the bodies of some sea creatures also affect human health negatively by participating in the food chain. 
Methods to be Applied
Plastic wastes are collected separately according to their types and recycled. It is broken into small pieces in crushing machines. Firms can use these parts in the production process by mixing them with raw materials in certain proportions, or they can also be used as second class raw materials by melting them again and adding additives. 
Delivery Locations
Plastic waste collected separately at its source is delivered to licensed recycling facilities. 
Regain
With the recovery of 1 ton of plastic; 5774 kWh of energy is saved, 41 tons of greenhouse gas emissions are reduced, 23 cubic meters of storage space is gained.

Cheeses have evolved and diversified since around 5000 BC and have reached the present day. There are numerous types of cheese, each categorized into different packaging groups. Among the various packaging types, plastic packaging holds the widest range. This group includes moldy, hard, semi-hard, brined, grated, and processed cheeses.
Cheese is a food that undergoes a fermentation process due to its structure. Depending on the type of cheese, it is necessary to minimize its exposure to oxygen, carbon dioxide, light, and water vapor. Plastic packaging, especially IML (In-Mold Labeling) packaging, effectively addresses these concerns by providing excellent sealing and barrier properties. This helps prevent these issues from occurring. As a result, plastic packaging becomes an indispensable choice for cheese producers.
A good cheese packaging should be flawless in terms of hygiene. In the production process, especially in the direct filling lines, microbial contamination should be prevented during IML packaging production, and shipment conditions should be established taking this aspect into account.
Although cheese producers generally use cold filling processes, there are certain types of cheese, such as cream cheese, where hot filling is also employed. During hot filling (70-80 ˚C), it is crucial that there is no deformation in the plastic packaging. In both filling methods, the packaging's sealing capability must be excellent. In some IML packaging, the sealing is achieved through a foil layer, while in others, it is directly provided by the locking feature between the container and the lid.
Another important consideration during sealing or locking the lid processes in cheese production lines is to ensure that there is no bulging or deformation in the containers. To prevent these issues and achieve maximum durability, the surface thickness of the packaging should be within ideal dimensions. Taking into account environmental factors and cost considerations, the most reasonable product for cheese producers would be one that achieves the minimum required thickness for ensuring durability.
Another factor in ensuring durability is the packaging design. Packaging designs for cheese products vary depending on the type of cheese. For example, in brined products, filling is done with brine solution, and having carrying points on IML packaging facilitates the packaging process. In foil-wrapped IML packaging, heat-resistant foil surfaces need to be incorporated into the design to withstand the exposure to heat.
Taking these factors into account in cheese packaging preferences can lead to maximum efficiency.
